🧾 Description:
Vincristine is a vinca alkaloid antineoplastic (chemotherapy) agent derived from the periwinkle plant (Catharanthus roseus). It is used to treat a variety of hematologic and solid tumors.
🚨 Precautions:
- Neurotoxicity is the most significant concern (e.g., foot drop, tingling, motor weakness)
- Avoid intrathecal administration → Always label the syringe: “For IV use only – Fatal if given intrathecally”
- Hepatic impairment may require dose adjustment
- Constipation is common — use stool softeners/laxatives
📦 Storage:
- Store refrigerated at 2–8°C
- Protect from light
- Do not freeze
- Diluted solutions should be used within 24 hours if stored properly
