🌿 NATURE / MECHANISM OF ACTION
- Paclitaxel stabilizes microtubules and inhibits their disassembly, interfering with the normal breakdown of microtubules during cell division.
- Arrests the cell cycle in the G2/M phase, inhibiting mitosis and causing apoptosis.
- Particularly effective against rapidly dividing tumor cells.
⚠️ PRECAUTIONS
- Requires premedication to prevent severe hypersensitivity reactions, which may be caused by Cremophor EL (polyoxyethylated castor oil):
- Dexamethasone
- Diphenhydramine
- Ranitidine or H2 antagonist
- Myelosuppression (especially neutropenia) is dose-limiting
- Peripheral neuropathy may occur, especially at higher cumulative doses
- Avoid use in patients with significant hepatic impairment
- Do not use PVC containers or tubing (Cremophor leaches DEHP)
- Monitor for cardiac effects (bradycardia, hypotension, ECG changes)
🧊 STORAGE
- Store at 20–25°C (controlled room temperature)
- Do not refrigerate or freeze
- Protect from light and heat
- Stable for up to 27 hours after dilution at room temperature (per product-specific data)
