๐น 1. Prescription / Indication:
Framycetin 1% cream is a topical antibiotic used for the treatment and prevention of bacterial skin infections, including:
- Infected wounds and cuts
- Minor burns
- Skin ulcers
- Infected dermatitis/eczema
- Post-surgical wound infections
- Superficial bacterial skin infections (e.g. impetigo)
๐น 2. Description:
- Form: Topical cream
- Strength: 1% w/w Framycetin sulfate (equivalent to ~10 mg/g)
- Color: White or off-white smooth cream
- Application: Apply thinly 2โ3 times daily
- Route: External use only

- Broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against:
- Staphylococcus
- Streptococcus
- Escherichia coli
- Proteus, Klebsiella, etc.
- Promotes faster wound healing
- Topical use minimizes systemic absorption

๐น 4. Nature / Pharmacological Class:
- Class: Topical aminoglycoside antibiotic
- Mechanism:
- Inhibits protein synthesis in bacterial cells by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit
- Leads to bacterial cell death (bactericidal)

- Store at below 25ยฐC (77ยฐF)
- Keep away from heat, moisture, and direct light
- Do not freeze
- Keep tube tightly closed
- Keep out of reach of children
๐น 7. Patient Advice / Counseling:
- Clean and dry affected area before applying
- Apply thin layer gently on the affected area
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, nose, and inner ears
- Do not apply over large areas or deep wounds without medical supervision
- Wash hands after use
- Avoid long-term use to reduce risk of antibiotic resistance or skin sensitization
- Discontinue if rash, itching, or irritation develops
- Not recommended for fungal or viral infections
