π Clofazimine Capsule 100 mg
π Description:
- Clofazimine is a riminophenazine dye antimycobacterial drug.
- It shows a slow bactericidal effect against Mycobacterium leprae.
- Also has anti-inflammatory action, making it useful in controlling erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL).
- Used as part of multidrug therapy (MDT) for leprosy.
π Prescription / Indications:
- Multibacillary leprosy β in combination with rifampicin + dapsone
- Erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL, Type 2 lepra reaction) β acute & chronic management
- Occasionally used off-label in:
- Drug-resistant tuberculosis
- Non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections

Contraindications:

- Rare but serious: eosinophilic enteritis, intestinal obstruction, psychiatric symptoms (depression due to cosmetic changes)
π Dosage (Adults):
- Leprosy MDT:
- 100 mg once daily (self-administered)
- Plus a supervised monthly dose of 300 mg (given with rifampicin & dapsone as per WHO MDT)
- ENL management: 100β300 mg daily (under supervision, tapered gradually)
