Ondansetron is a selective 5-HT3 (serotonin) receptor antagonist used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting, especially those associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and postoperative recovery.
🧾 Prescription / Indications:
Prescribed for:
- Prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting due to:
- Chemotherapy (CINV)
- Radiotherapy (RINV)
- Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV)
- Gastroenteritis (as per physician’s discretion)
- Pregnancy-related nausea (with caution)
Typical Adult Dose:
- 4–8 mg, 1 to 3 times daily depending on indication
- Best taken 30 minutes before chemotherapy or surgical procedure
